Directions

  1. Begin at Kirkby Stephen’s Market Square and walk towards the Parish Church with the Visitor Centre on your left.
  2. Turn right onto the road after 100 metres, following signs for River Eden and Frank’s Bridge.
  3. Take a left down the steps, continuing to follow the signs. Bear left to cross the bridge and then turn right to walk along the gravel path beside the river.
  4. Go through the wooden gate on the left to join the path, and turn right to walk along the road when you reach the terraced houses. Bear left after 60 metres and cross the bridge.
  5. Turn right after the bridge and continue. Turn right again to join the footpath after the National Speed Limit sign, keeping the stream to your right. Turn right after 100 metres to join the road again.
  6. Go left at the fork in the road onto the ‘No Through Road’. Continue along this road for 1.4 miles.
  7. Next, bear left at the fork in the road after 50 metres bear right to pass through a metal gate. Continue straight on.
  8. Follow the path as it becomes grassy, with the drywall on your right. At the next fork, bear right. Follow the bridleway sign to Rollinson and Haggs, ignoring the left fork.
  9. After some time, bear left heading away from the drywall to continue along the well-established path as it bends towards a wooden post.
  10. At the second wooden post, turn right and take the path to cross the stream. Continue straight on with the dry-stone wall on your right. Cross the streams using the stepping stones.
  11. When a wide path joins from the left, bear right to join it, bending right and heading downhill towards the stream.
  12. After crossing the stream, bear left onto the grassy path. Continue straight through the gate along the limestone path and through a second path.
  13. Continue straight for 50m, then turn left onto the wide, grassy track beside the fence.
  14. When a path joins from the left, bear right, then bear left towards the paved road. Turn left and follow the road. Continue along the path for 2.4 miles.
  15. Pass the ‘bends ahead’ sign, ignoring the sign for Coast to Coast taking you left, and continue straight on. After 100 metres, turn left and follow the road uphill. Continue straight, still ignoring the Coast to Coast signs.
  16. Take the fork in the path to the right, bearing right downhill when the gravel road ends. Pass a metal hut on your left.
  17. Bear left and cross over the stream and continue straight. Follow the route to reach the corner of a wire fence, ignoring the stiles over it. Continue straight along the path, over the stream and across the wooden bridge.
  18. Turn right when you reach a flat, grassy area and cross the stream. Ascend the rocky road following the sign for Coast to Coast to Raven Seat.
  19. Turn left to cross the cattle grid when you reach the road. Continue straight after 300 metres, crossing the stone bridge. Turn right after the stone bridge to cross a wooden bridge and follow the gravel road.
  20. When you see a stone house in front of you, turn right and go through the gap in the wall. Continue straight with the river on your right and pass through the gate.
  21. Once you’ve gone through the metal gate, bear left passing two stone buildings on your left. Follow the footpath sign.
  22. Continue straight along the path, passing through two gaps in the drywall (ignore the gap to your left).
  23. Follow through two wooden gates with the wall on your right. Continue straight, disregarding the fork to the left.
  24. Once you’ve passed under the overhead lines and reach a stone building take a left to follow the sign to Keld.
  25. Continue straight, passing through a gate and past a farmhouse to the right.
  26. Bear left and ascend past Frith B&B, following the arrow sign. Follow the path alongside the river, passing through a gate and keeping the wall to your right.
  27. Once you’ve passed through woodland, keep the wall on your left. Bear left to pass through the gate and then turn right to join the road, heading towards a bridge.
  28. Turn left after the bridge to follow the sign to Keld and Reeth.
  29. Pass the Methodist chapel on the right and take the next left, following the sign towards ‘Keld Only’. Bear left after 150 metres to arrive in Keld.
